A nice little piece from the Gaurdian website.
Alexander McCall Smith, author of the 44 Scotland Street novels, shows Sarah Crown around Edinburgh’s New Town, where many of his books are set, and introduces her to some of the locations – and even some of the characters – who appear in the pages.
Oh, I love his books! My favourite series is the one not set in Scotland, the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. But I do love the others as well.
It was so strange when visiting Edinburgh last summer to be able to recognize place names and streets of a place I’d never been to before.
Reading as much as I can get of Alexander McCall Smith, I noticed what I think is an error on page 11 of Forgotten Affairs of the Heart when Isabel is described as prone to prevarication. I think the implication of the context calls for the word procrastination instead. Honesty is so often Isabel’s primary moral concern that the work prevarication shocks me when used to describe her. Is this perhaps an editing mistake?
